Revision Process
I like writing drafts and then having either a student or the teacher go over what I have written to give me advice over the paper. I feel that sometimes my original drafts are not as well put together as they could be, simply because at times I find it hard to think of something to write about. The revisions I usually make to my papers I believe help make the paper better, but I still like to have other people’s opinions other than just my own. Getting other people to revise my paper I believe they sometimes come up with ideas or ways to write something that I would have never thought of. In high school we would have one conference with our teacher for each paper that we were assigned to write. She would give us advice and how to make changes that would better our paper. She would just give us advice, however, and not actually tell what was all needed to make the paper an “A” paper. I believe that this worked very well. I like how we have the students revise our papers, but sometimes other students advice isn’t the best advice. I do think that having other students revise my paper is helping me to become a better writer. I also think it helps to revise other student’s papers because you can sometimes get different ideas on how to better your writing. The instructor’s comments are clear and easy to understand. If for some reason they aren’t clear, the instructor never has a problem answering the student’s questions. Overall, I think that the revision process is working very well, and hopefully helps to better my writing skills.

"In Bed, the Kiss"
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
I chose the painting called “In Bed, the Kiss.” In this painting it is clear that neither the man nor the woman have their shirts on. Because of this it makes it obvious that the couple is doing more than just kissing. The purpose of this painting is to show two people either in love or maybe in lust. The audience would be young adults on up. Younger children would not really understand this type of painting. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec also may have painted this picture because he could have been thinking of his girlfriend or wife at the time he decided to paint it. I also noticed while looking for a picture to analyze that Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec had several paintings of men and women in bed together. He also had a lot of paintings of social events where people were dancing and enjoying themselves. By looking at these other paintings, I also came to the conclusion that Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec liked to paint pictures of how people lived back in the 1800’s. I believe that his stance on painting this picture was the honest fact that people do sleep around. Whether this couple in bed is married or not, people back in the 1800’s slept with each other as do many people today. By using shades of darker blues and grays for the bed sheets, someone could also conclude that this couple is sleeping together at night. Going back to the paintings of the social events, this could be an after result of one of the paintings with the couples dancing and having fun.

Life without Television
It seems today that having a television in one’s home is a necessity. When I was growing up, we had two TV’s: one in our living room, and one in my parents’ bedroom. We were only allowed to watch TV in the summertime during the morning, and after that we had to go play outside or find another way to entertain ourselves. Today there are children with TV’s in their bedrooms. I have babysat for four different families and their kids have TV’s in their bedrooms. I don’t think that watching television is all bad, but when kids start to get addicted to it there needs to be a change.
I don’t believe that by not having television it would make more independent human beings. I don’t really see the connection between watching television and being less independent.
If children wouldn’t have a television to watch I do believe that they would grow up to be healthier. If children would not have a television to watch tv shows or to play video games on they would be forced to find something else to entertain them. Their entertainment would most likely result in playing outside doing a physical activity, or they would find another fun activity to become involved in.
A world without television is very hard to imagine. I believe that television can benefit and not benefit children in life. When it comes to being more educated I do not agree that technically children would be more educated without television. Today there are programs on TV that are made to help children learn without them being conscious of it. Dora the Explorer, is a good example of a kids television show that helps to educate children. Throughout Dora the Explorer, Dora uses some Spanish words while she talks. After she says the word she explains what the word means. Then she asks the children who are watching the show to say the word with her. This is helping young children learn some Spanish words at a young age. There are many children television shows today that are helping children learn while watching them. Team Umizoomi is also a television show on Nick Jr. that is a math-based show for preschoolers. In this show, the characters help solve problems and use shapes and colors while doing so. It helps children to learn their shapes and colors while having fun. Because of shows like this, I believe that children can actually benefit from watching television at a young age. Once a child gets older and needs to start doing homework and wants to watch television instead, then I believe that television could be a problem.
I believe that having a television could benefit children in some ways, but more often than not it is more hurting them than it is helping them.

The Power of Advertising
Whether we realize it or not, today’s society is greatly influenced by the advertising world. I feel that some of the ads that advertisers present to the public are unnecessary. The ads I feel that are mainly unnecessary are the ads that have the models in them, hoping that by having pretty girls it will benefit their product. Whether the ad is using these models to help them try to sell dieting pills, or if they’re using these models just to catch a guy’s attention, I believe that both are not needed.
I believe that by having these models all over the media today is showing girls how they are expected to look even though most of these models have had touch ups done on computers to help them look more appealing. I think that by having these types of women in advertisements, they are telling girls at a young age how they are expected to look. Because most people will never look like these models, I think it is giving girls of all ages false hopes.
False hopes like these could lead to many problems in a girl’s life. Not having the “ideal American female body” could lead to girls becoming depressed, anorexic, bulimic, and other dangerous health problems. These false hopes could also be a problem for men because men also see how these women in advertisements look and want their girl friend or future wife to obtain this similar body frame.
I believe that many advertisements today have negative impacts on the way our society views themselves and each other. If advertisers would stop having these kinds of advertisements would the world be a place with higher self-esteems and more optimistic people? I believe the answer is yes.
